Throughout the Netherlands, thousands of Mew Gulls ringed with white four-character-rings with the letter E as first character. These rings have four characters of which a maximum of 2 digits. The newest ring only have letters. These rings are used mainly for wintering birds. The majority are ringed during cold spells in 2010. The letters G, I, O and Q are not used.
