Colour code

The birds in this project have a collar on which there are 4 characters. Both characters are vertical on the collar (turned a quarter).

The colour code consists of 3 consecutive elements:

  1. an N (Neck) plus the letter of the colour
  2. a hyphen (‘-’)
  3. the inscription (always 4 characters)

Example NW-ABCD. This bird has a white collar with a ABCD on it.

In some projects, part of the birds may have a leg ring with the same colour and usually the same inscription. This ring is to still recognise the bird if the neckband is lost. There are also birds that never had a neckband. The colour code of a bird with only a leg ring is similar to that of the collar, but without the N on the first position. Example W-ABCD.
