In the early 2000s, increasing numbers of Ruddy Shelduck visiting the Netherlands for moult during the summer months raised questions about the origin of these birds. We founded the Dutch Ruddy Shelduck Working Group in 2012 and between 2013 and 2016 we marked ~200 birds at moulting sites in the Netherlands, with most effort at Lake Eemmeer near Huizen (NH). The birds were fitted with a yellow colour-ring and a yellow neckband. Most resightings to date came from the catchment area of the river Rhine (Germany and Switzerland). Results of the study were published in Kleyheeg et al. 2020 (in Dutch with English summary).
