The project focuses on the role of environmental conditions in the development of the immune system and the probability of infection in Common Blackbirds (especially by mosquito-borne diseases like Usutu virus and West Nile virus). Therefore, Blackbird nests in gardens and parks in the cities of Nijmegen and Wageningen and forests near these cities are monitored. Both nestlings and parents are ringed with unique colour codes to follow their survival, reproductive success and dispersal.
